Colombia's celebration

An entire country, dancing in Barranquilla

On Colombia's northern coast, on the Magdalena River, an entire city becomes the country's most important festive stage every year. Barranquilla, capital of the Atlántico department and gateway to the Colombian Caribbean, welcomes millions of visitors who come to experience the world's second-largest carnival celebration after Rio's Carnival.

UNESCO declared it a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity: centuries of cultural mestizaje, indigenous, African and European, transformed into dances, music, costumes and characters that exist nowhere else on the planet. It is Colombia in its freest, most joyful, most alive form.

CocoVolare opens the right doors so you enter that celebration without friction: with access already managed, private transport waiting and careful guidance that lets you focus on what matters most, letting the rhythm carry you.

With access coordinated in premium locations

Opening Coronation Event, Barranquilla Carnival
Act 1

Coronation Event

The night when Carnival awakens officially. Under a grand gala setting, the Queen and King Momo of the celebration are proclaimed in a grand spectacle of music, staging and lights. An entire city holds its breath until the first chord sounds, and from that instant, it never stops.

Arrive early to enjoy the pre-event atmosphere from your box: the moment of proclamation is the photo you'll remember for years.
Iconic parade Battle of Flowers, Vía 40, Barranquilla Carnival
Act 2

Battle of Flowers · Vía 40

The most emblematic parade of Carnival and one of Latin America's largest. Monumental floats decorated with flowers, queens throwing petals to the crowd, groups of hundreds of dancers and a human river that crosses Vía 40 for hours. It's sensory, it's physical, and it's unforgettable.

Bring a hat, sunscreen and light clothing, it's five hours of open-air celebration. From the box there's shade, seating and service, but the Caribbean sun deserves respect.
Pure folklore Grand Tradition Parade, Barranquilla Carnival
Act 3

Grand Tradition Parade

No floats. No effects. Only folklore in its purest form: cumbias, mapalés, garabatos, congos and son de negro parading under open sky on Vía 40. Here you see the ancestral soul of Carnival, the root coming from African, indigenous and European peoples, intact. For many, it's the most emotional day of the celebration.

Observe the costumes closely: each group represents a family with decades of tradition. The details, embroidery, masks, accessories, have meaning and tell their own stories.
Social gala Carnival social night, Barranquilla
Act 4

Carnival Social Night

The gala that closes the biggest day. In an iconic hotel in the city, live music, elegant atmosphere, presence of entrepreneurs, social leaders and international visitors. The Caribbean puts on a tie, but never stops dancing. VIP area with premium view of the stage and attentive service.

Suggested dress code: elegant tropical. Men in linen shirts, women in light dresses, don't forget accessories, it's the moment to shine.

About the Carnival
01Where is Barranquilla Carnival celebrated?

In Barranquilla, capital of the Atlántico department, at the mouth of the Magdalena River on the Colombian Caribbean coast. It is Colombia's most important cultural celebration and the second-largest carnival celebration in the world, only surpassed by Rio de Janeiro's Carnival.

02Why is it Heritage of Humanity?

UNESCO declared it a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in November 2003. It recognizes centuries of cultural mestizaje, indigenous, African and European, transformed into dances, music and unique characters like marimondas, congos, negritas puloy and little bulls, passed down generation to generation within traditional Carnival families.

03When is 2027 Carnival celebrated?

Official Carnival is celebrated the four days before Ash Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, which for 2027 will fall in early February. The CocoVolare experience is designed around those dates; the final schedule is confirmed based on the official calendar published by Carnaval de Barranquilla S.A.S.

04What weather to expect?

Warm, dry tropical climate. Day: 28–31 °C (82–88 °F), night: 24–26 °C (75–79 °F). Humidity 70–80%, between 8 and 9 hours of sunshine daily and very little rain. Carnival is celebrated during the Caribbean's dry season, the best time of year to be on the Colombian coast.

About CocoVolare experience
05What events does the experience include?

Coordinated access in premium locations to the four main acts of Carnival: the Coronation Event, Battle of Flowers on Vía 40, Grand Tradition Parade and an exclusive social night. All logistics around it, transfers, meals, timing, is already handled by the CocoVolare team.

06What level of hotel is included?

Superior category hotel, with two styles to choose from:

  • Historic classic: traditional architecture, green areas, pool and urban resort atmosphere.
  • Contemporary: modern design, spacious rooms and international service.

Both options with strategic location to facilitate travel to Carnival events.

07Can the itinerary be personalized?

Yes. The base itinerary is adjusted to the group's pace and priorities: from hotel type to gastronomic and cultural tours, activity level and free moments. If you prefer more rest between events, more gastronomy, more beach or less, we coordinate with you before the trip.

08How does transport work during the trip?

Private Sprinter-type van exclusive to the group, air-conditioned with professional driver who knows routes, schedules, road closures and Carnival-specific logistics. Covers airport-hotel-events transfers and city tours. No sharing with other passengers, no apps, no surprises.

Practical
09What should I pack?

Light cotton or linen clothing in happy colors, comfortable breathable footwear for parades (heels for the social night), swimwear, high SPF sunscreen and hat or cap. For the social night: elegant tropical dress code, linen shirt, light dress, good accessories. Camera or phone with good battery is essential.

10Is it safe to attend Carnival?

Yes. Main events are in controlled areas with official security and CocoVolare access is always in boxes with protocol. Private transport avoids the most congested areas and the group's host knows the city's logistics. We recommend usual precautions: don't carry high-value items to parades and follow the team's guidance.

11When is the best time to book?

As far in advance as possible. Carnival generates high demand for flights, hotels and access, and premium boxes sell out quickly. Booking several months ahead ensures better seating, more stable rates and greater customization room. Limited spots, the experience operates as a private group.

12What documentation do I need?

For Colombian nationals: valid Colombian ID card. For foreigners: valid passport (minimum 6 months validity), and in some cases visa depending on nationality, the CocoVolare team advises you. Travel insurance recommended for the entire experience duration.
