The essence

The Adriatic's rising star

Croatia has just entered the global top 10 of the Virtuoso Luxe Report 2026, and this route shows why. It opens in Split, where city life unfolds inside the palace Diocletian built for his retirement, continues under sail between Hvar and Vis with a skipper who knows every cove, and closes in Istria, where Rovinj lights up at sunset and truffle rules the table.

The scale of the country works in a couple's favor: short distances, a sea of transparent water with more than a thousand islands and islets, and stone towns you cross entirely on foot. We handle the skippered sailboat, private transfers between stages and tables at the restaurants that sell out in summer.

The Dalmatian coast

Split, Croatia

A gentle landing at a boutique hotel inside the old town. Diocletian's Palace is explored with a private guide first thing in the morning, while the stone courtyards are still silent. One afternoon escapes to Primošten, the town that seems to float on its peninsula, and dinner is served by the sea, with the day's catch and Dalmatian wines.

Highlights
Diocletian's Palace with a private guide · Split's old town on foot · Escape to Primošten · Seaside dinner with Dalmatian wines
The islands under sail · Croatia Honeymoon 02 · Hvar and Vis

3 nights

The islands under sail

Hvar and Vis, Croatia

A private skippered sailboat waits in Split's harbor. Three days of easy sailing between Hvar and Vis, anchoring in coves reachable only by sea, swimming in water as clear as a pool and watching sunsets with a glass on deck. The skipper sets the route with the wind and knows the konobas where the food beats anything on the mainland.

Highlights
Private sailboat with skipper · Coves reachable only by sea · Hvar and Vis at your own pace · Sunsets on deck
Rovinj and inland Istria · Croatia Honeymoon 03 · Istria

3 nights

Rovinj and inland Istria

Rovinj, Croatia

A private transfer north and a complete change of landscape. Rovinj stacks colorful houses on a peninsula crowned by a bell tower, and the sunsets from its harbor rank among the Adriatic's finest. One day is devoted to the interior: Istrian truffle hunting with trained dogs, lunch at a village tavern and a tasting among the Malvazija vineyards.

What we would tell a friend

Advice from our travel designers: what we book first, what we avoid, and the details that turn a good trip into an unforgettable one.

01

Fly into Split and out of Pula or Venice

An open-jaw ticket avoids retracing your steps after Istria. We always quote it this way.

02

Book the sailboat months ahead

The best skippered sailboats sell out very early for July and August. For those dates it pays to confirm half a year in advance.

03

Let the skipper lead the plan

On the Adriatic the wind sets the order of the coves. A flexible itinerary sails better than a fixed one.

04

Pack water shoes for the coves

Croatian beaches are pebble and rock. A light pair of water shoes transforms every swim.

05

Consider September

After summer the sea reaches its warmest temperature of the year and the harbors empty out. It is our favorite month for this route.

06

Travel in autumn for white truffle

The high season for Istrian white truffle starts in October. In summer the kitchens work with black truffle, just as present on the table.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for Croatia?

May, June and September combine a mild sea, long days and quiet towns. July and August are the peak: everything is open, with more people and higher rates. October remains a good month for Istria, and in winter much of the island offering closes.

How much does this honeymoon cost?

The 10 to 12 day route starts at USD 4,600 per person in double occupancy and includes accommodation, a private skippered sailboat, private transfers and the listed experiences. International flights are quoted separately.

How does the skippered sailboat work?

The sailboat is chartered for your exclusive use with a professional skipper who sails, anchors and handles all logistics on board. No sailing experience is needed: the couple sets the pace and the skipper suggests coves and harbors according to the day's wind.

Can we add Dubrovnik?

Yes. Dubrovnik works as an optional two or three night extension at the start or end of the route, with a private transfer or a short flight from Split. We include it in the proposal if it fits your dates.

What documents do we need?

Entry requirements depend on your nationality and change often. The source airlines check is the IATA Travel Centre, where you can verify your exact case before buying tickets.
