The essence

The most surprising trip you can take together

Japan is a world of its own, which is exactly why it works so well as a honeymoon: every day brings something neither of you has seen before. Tokyo opens with pure energy, Kyoto delivers a thousand temples and wooden streets where geishas still pass on their way to work, and Hakone gives you a ryokan with a private onsen in the room and a view of Mount Fuji when the sky cooperates.

Japanese logistics are a form of exclusivity in themselves: bullet trains punctual to the second, luggage that travels on its own from hotel to hotel and a cleanliness that surprises. We book the Japan Rail Pass, the ryokans that sell out a year ahead in blossom season and the kaiseki dinners that only take guests by introduction.

What we would tell a friend

Advice from our travel designers: what we book first, what we avoid, and the details that turn a good trip into an unforgettable one.

01

Book a year ahead for cherry blossoms

Late March and early April sell out hotels twelve months in advance. It is the only destination where we ask for that much lead time.

02

Use the luggage forwarding service

For a few dollars your suitcase travels alone from hotel to hotel. Moving around Japan with a small backpack changes the entire trip.

03

Book the ryokan with a private onsen

Public onsen prohibit swimwear and sometimes tattoos. A private onsen in the room avoids any awkwardness.

04

Carry cash in yen

Japan is still a cash country at temples, markets and small restaurants. Convenience store ATMs always work.

05

Download the metro map offline

Tokyo stations are underground cities. An offline map and the right exit number written down prevent that lost feeling.

06

Wear shoes that slip off easily

Temples, ryokans and many restaurants are entered without shoes. Hands-free footwear makes the day far simpler.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for Japan?

Late March and early April bring the cherry blossoms, the most desired and most expensive season. October and November deliver red autumn, just as beautiful with fewer people. May and June are mild and bright. August is hot and humid.

How much does a Japan honeymoon cost?

The 12 to 14 day route starts at USD 6,900 per person in double occupancy and includes hotels and ryokans, Japan Rail Pass, private guides, tea ceremony, kaiseki dinners and transfers. International flights are quoted separately.

Do we need to speak Japanese?

English is enough. Private guides accompany you at the key moments, and stations, museums and menus are signposted in two languages. We also prepare a card with phrases and addresses in Japanese for taxis and small restaurants.

Is Japan expensive for a honeymoon?

Hotels and trains carry European pricing, but eating is surprisingly affordable and of extremely high quality. The budget is controlled by choosing well where to invest: one exceptional ryokan matters more than five expensive dinners.

What documents do we need?

Entry requirements depend on your nationality. The source airlines check is the IATA Travel Centre, where you can verify your exact case before buying tickets.
