The essence

An island of spices and an endless lagoon

The Maldives is the most coveted honeymoon finale in the world, and this route gives it a prologue worthy of the name: Sri Lanka. The journey opens among the frescoes and volcanic rock of Sigiriya, climbs by train through tea plantations to Ella, descends to the colonial fort of Galle beside the ocean, and forty minutes of flight later changes register entirely: a seaplane, a turquoise lagoon and an overwater villa with the reef beneath your bed.

The sequence matters: Sri Lanka is traveled with eyes wide open and the Maldives barefoot, so the trip sheds pace until it reaches absolute rest. We handle the Colombo–Malé flight, the seaplane to your atoll, private transfers with a driver and seats on the right side of the train.

What we would tell a friend

Advice from our travel designers: what we book first, what we avoid, and the details that turn a good trip into an unforgettable one.

01

Fly into Colombo and out of Malé

An open-jaw ticket takes advantage of Colombo and Malé sitting one flight hour apart. We always quote it this way.

02

Save the Maldives for last

Sri Lanka asks for curiosity and the Maldives rewards it. In that order the rest arrives when it is most welcome.

03

Book the tea train in advance

First-class seats between Kandy and Ella sell out weeks ahead. We secure them on the valley side.

04

Book the seaplane in daylight

Maldivian seaplanes operate only during daylight. If your flight lands in Malé at night, a night in the capital is added.

05

Pack clothing that covers shoulders and knees

Sri Lankan temples require it, and some are entered barefoot. One light piece in your daypack solves the whole day.

06

Confirm your Maldives meal plan

Half board versus all inclusive changes the final budget significantly on the atolls. We detail it in the proposal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for Sri Lanka and the Maldives?

From December to April both destinations are in dry season, the ideal window. November works well with gentler rates, and in July and August Sri Lanka's east coast is at its best, with brief showers in the Maldives that rarely spoil the day.

How much does this honeymoon cost?

The 12 to 14 day route starts at USD 6,200 per person in double occupancy and includes accommodation, the Colombo–Malé flight, seaplane, private transfers and the listed experiences. International flights are quoted separately.

Can we add more nights in the Maldives?

Yes. Many couples extend to eight or nine atoll nights, or combine two resorts with different characters. Sri Lanka can also be shortened to four nights if the calendar is tight.

What is the minimum number of days?

Ten days cover the cultural triangle, Galle and five Maldivian nights at a good pace. With twelve you add the tea train without rushing, which is the version we recommend.

What documents do we need?

Entry requirements depend on your nationality and change often. The source airlines check is the IATA Travel Centre, where you can verify your exact case before buying tickets.
